Er Rational musings #289
बालक पालक of a different kind...
Story of contemporary bright child n his proud parents.
Acedimically brilliant. Chosen stream after SSC/HSC. Graduate. TOEFL/GRE. Search good University/College/Location. Education loan from bank. Off they GO. 2 years Masters. Sometimes PHD. Apartment. Indian friends. Convocation. Visit by proud parents. Site seeing/photographs/memories. Periodic VISA status change/updation. Job. Skype chatting @ll these years. Repayment of Education loan. India visit, once a year, mostly during Christmas vacation. Bigger apartment/Independent house. Wedding. Preferably from 'there' itself. Maharashtra mandal/programmes/celebration/festivals like Diwali. Children. Visit/extended stay by mother/mother-in-law during n after pregnancy. Parents shunting. Citizenship. Dual Citizenship. Life time VISA. Career. Bright children's children, part n parcel of resident country.
So many examples. Very rarely, any known 'bright' child has returned. Returned for good, I mean to say.
Why? Is it not, not giving back to Society!? Should the banks insist on serving mother nation after completing the courses in foreign countries? A legal compulsory 2 years internship, may be? In India? Repaying loan while earning in dollars may be easier, but, may be after that?
Old argument. No scope. Hurdles. No recognition for talent. Why should we? Ailing infrastructure. Stagnant growth. Bureaucracy. Blah blah.
Who will change this? If the National talent is eroding, eloping, how it can change?
Actually, it's the other way round.
Bright children, "be the First among Equals" on Desi horizon, instead of "being One of Many, all n sundry" on Foreign shores.
A Brain Drain or a Brain Gain?
