~ Like, I remember that a few years back, all vehicle owners were forced to change the patterns of the number plates. eg Black letters on white back ground for private vehicles and, Black numbers on yellow back ground for public vehicles. So many high fundu reasons were cited for the switch; whatever happened to those / what was the pressing need? (all letter writers \ painters had a jolly good time, courtesy our RTO!)
~ Like, I think Sania Mirza has lost the plot. So many sports lovers believed in her at early stages of her tennis career. The sharp rise & quick fall on the circuit was sure to happen, as (once) she started playing doubles instead of ONLY singles, in tournaments, after initial rising; whereas the wiser one would have concentrated more on singles! Look & compare with another contemporary sports person, (Sania’s anagram) Saina Nehwal, to whom, playing doubles is strictly taboo till today & look where she is today. Bravo, keep it UP & all the very best for All England / Olympics…..& and one feels at a loss of words while appreciating dear Leander Paes, who has recently won his 50 th doubles title..kudos, you are a class apart.
~ Like, I ponder upon RTO rule which asks vehicles to keep 30 feet distance behind a learning school vehicle; if all comply, what would happen with the traffic situation!
C H A O S !
~ Like, I understand that playing ‘Pool’ is a latest fad amongst youngsters. I say that ‘Pool’ is to ‘Billiards / Snooker’, what ‘Mumbri’ is to ‘Bridge’ and hence our young terks, instead of wasting their time (& money & energy) on senseless games like ‘Pool’ etc, should start playing competitive Billiards / Snooker!
~ Like, discerningly, there is an over dose of Vidya – Bidya in ‘kahaani’’; but it is music to the ears..similar to Seeta – Seetha and Vasanti – Vasanthi etc, as in Southern regions. Unity in Diversity in our Bharat(h) des(h)!
~ Like, I observe either a news paper wala or a vada pav wala or a chambhar or a stall of Aarey Milk situated near to many traffic signal junctions in suburbs of Mumbai. Life of pedestrians would be a lot easier, if such encroachments are done away with.
~ Like, I am often saddened by closures & absence of old Irani hotels from aamchi Mumbai’s landscape, what with memories of paani-cum chai & bun/broon maska. I always think of many hours idled away in many such hotels in the City in the Eighties & Nineties. Upon entering & once seated comfortably at a listless wooden chair & round table, my favourite (and immediate) order would be four free commodities! (Paani, Pankha, Paper & Matchis – waiter, bring Water; Fan lagao; News Paper do aur Match Box do..to light a cigarette!) & over and above that, ek paani-cum lao…BIG thaaanqueee all Irani Hotels !
Miss you.

~ Like, I think that there are two (best) innovations, which often help us a lot more in our everyday life are
1. Upper dipper switch of an automobile; not the switch, but its function! you flicker it once / twice, so as to convey your intentions to the driver of vehicle coming from opposite direction. Inventing a switch is OK, but firstly to think about flicker signalling is a Novel idea!
2. Serving a tea (local, eg ‘Shankar Vilas Hindu Hotel’) / chai in a steel waati! Notice that there are two waatis, with smaller one containing your chai, is placed upside down in a bigger one! Simple but effective with tremendous usage?! Tea doesn’t get spilled and one can make two cuttings from one full tea served ! That’s practicality & Logic, boss! Hats OFF…..
~ Like, I think that drinking age should be 18, instead of 25, as per existing law. Whatever happened to the Public Interest Litigation filed by actor Imran Khan (Aamir Khan’s nephew)? Or was it only a publicity stunt? Anyway, if we allow today’s youth to vote at the age of 18, then everything else should follow suit…
~ Like, I feel that employees of co operative banks like Saraswat, Shamrao Vithal, Cosmos etc & private banks like ICICI & HDFC etc are far more courteous (and smiling \ helpful \ look happy!) than employees working with nationalized banks like Bank of Baroda, Bank of India, Bank of Maharashtra & so on..
~ Like, I notice that driving on Saturdays, Sundays & holidays is more taxiing & frustrating for ‘seven days – regular drivers’; because, most people, who own a vehicle & do not commute to offices in their own vehicle, take out their cars on weekends. They are mostly occasional drivers & hence I find them NOT as fluent as other routine ones…
~ Like, I wonder about how the law is enforced…on one hand, we make private vehicle drivers & co-passenger to wear seat belts, but on the other hand, it is not mandatory & applicable for drivers of Fiat taxi, tempo, truck, bus & so on..
~ Like, how wearing a helmet is compulsory in Mumbai, but not in Pune / most of the other cities in Maharashtra…that’s public pressure…
~ Lastly, I observe that the queues outside Mandirs are getting longer & longer day by day and also, a lot more youth are found patiently waiting for their turn for lord’s darshan…
and we have segregated days as...Mondays are for Shankar bappa, Tuesdays are for Ganapati bappa, Thursdays are for Datta Maharaj / Sai baba / Swami Samarth / Shegaon Gajanan Maharaj and Saturdays are for Shani ji / Hanuman ji and ‘abhaksha bhakshan / apeypaan’ is taboo on these SACRED days. But look at the master stroke of this scheme! Wednesday (Vitthalacha diwas), Friday (Devi cha diwas) and Sunday (Surya cha diwas) are left out & conveniently ignored, so that we are allowed (!) to eat meat & have drinks on these days! All Gods / Goddesses are NOT equal, so it seems!

Car mix
~ I think that right mixture of meditation, Exercise, Food, Sleep, Hobbies, Social Service & Friendship shall enhance our zest for simple but smart living!
~ Like, I observe following variance in driving psychology of inhabitants in jurisdiction of various RTOs as mentioned:
MH-01 (Mumbai City): Skillful & safe drivers
MH-02 (Mumbai Western side): Heady & rude drivers
MH-03 (Mumbai Eastern Suburbs): Peaceful & almost perfect drivers! MH-04 (Thane): Unskillful, ungraceful & mad drivers.
MH-05 (Kalyan): Beginners / Learners!
MH-06 (Khopoli): Beware! Dangerous drivers
MH-12 (Pune): Driving on Pune streets is very easy as one can drive any which way he wants & nobody, even the police do not bother, all is well! Drivers have their own unique style!
MH-43 (Navi Mumbai): Sab khoon maaf! & watch out - they can do anything! Drivers don’t know how to park, how to adhere to the lane, how to respect the signal et al.
MOST dangerous combination is a lady driver with MH-43 registration driving Red coloured Santro car!
And while we are at driving pilgrimage, please note following:
Calm and serene people prefer & own Maruti Alto or Maruti WagonR,
Heady and speedy prefer & own a Hyundai Santro / Verna.
Simple, slow & steady prefer Indigo, while huff & puff prefer Maruti DZire.
Shorty people prefer sedan.
Sporty & bounty prefer Toyota Innova!
Showy prefer a Honda and complicated (& weird people) own a mix of sundries available like Ford, Vento, Micra, Xylo, Beat, Polo etc.
~ Like there is an immense difference between reverence & awe enjoyed by Doctors over other equally qualified professionals. Most sought after pros in descending order are Doctors, Advocates, CAs, (all can dictate terms to their respective customers), Structural Engineers\Architects, CSs, MBAs and lastly Engineers! Also, there is an anomaly in comparing MS (Master of Surgery done after MBBS) with MS (Master of Science done after BE) Or LLB/CA with BE & so on.
