Er Rational musings #98

Er Rational musings #98

3D printer is a confusing term. and sorry to say, slightly misleading.

If you are thinking about a typical printer, be it a dot matrix/desk jet/ink jet printer/plotter or such, in the context of 3D printer, you are completely wrong. It is actually a machine, a kinda CNC (CNC - Computerized Numerical Control is the controlling system with digital electronic computers and circuitry).

Inputs to 3D printer can be in any form of autocad drawing or model prepared using various compatible softwares. Output is not a print out. Output is the end product, actual miniature object/product, in a physical form n shape.

Why such automated machine, in real sense, is named/called as '3D printer' is a mystery.

Inventor's prerogative, offcourse!
