Er Rational musings #77
Jaywalking means crossing the streets through the middle and walking on the roads. Without regard for approaching traffic, actually.
We have a habit of Jaywalking. Due to various reasons. Reasons beyond our control.
Like, no provision of footpaths. And, wherever available, their narrow width, un-even surface, dangerously loose/open manholes, etc. Encroachment of shopkeepers, roadside vendors, hawkers, food stalls, newspaper stalls, a mochi, milk booths, PCO stalls of handicapped, and so on.
We are FORCED to do Jaywalk.
Roads are planned for vehicles. Vehicular traffic. Public/Private transport. And Parking. Yes, Parking.
We should make it a habit of using footpaths, wherever available. @lways keep a tab on which patch has a good footpath. Use it religiously.
For example, at Mulund east. Good footpaths are available. One sided, from Shiv Sena shakha near station to Hanuman chowk. One sided/both sides, Campus hotel Junction towards Highway. One side of GV scheme roads. Prashant hotel to CD Deshmukh garden to Palm Acres, both sides. Etc. Etc. Similarly, footpaths (in patches) are there at Mulund west, as well. At busy roads. They are encroached upon, at many a locations, but still...some patches are Really in immaculate condition! Like, near & about T ward BMC office, road in front of Kalidas. MG Road, approaching station etc.
[People living in other cities like Thane, Pune etc should take a note and act, before it is too late.]
Otherwise, what's happening? For example: We have a plot boundary. Then Residential apartments/buildings/commercial structures. Then Shops. Then Encroachment on footpaths. Then Parking on roads. Then people walking. Then, in whatever available road portion in the middle, vehicles maneuvering. A good width road which can actually accommodate 2 lanes comfortably, reduced to small width at middle of the road for two way traffic?!
Start at once. Slowly slowly all concerned will be FORCED to take cognizance of our Right. Corrective measures shall be taken n implemented, for sure.
Choice is ours-
Jaywalking or Gay-walking??!!
