Er Rational musings #633
A must read:
Why private hospitals make you buy costly drugs:
Today's headline, n news, top story in The Times of India, regarding hospitalisation.
Drugs, medicines n injections in some (well, most of them!) hospitals are administered for very high prices. The hospitals are earning a whopping 15 to 35% profit on this account.
For example, a cancer (multiple myeloma) patient in Gurgaon was given an injection Novartis's Zometa, costing Rs 15200/- pee shot. (for every 2 to 3 weeks for over 2 years!). On a work trip to bangaluru, she got the injection there, costing Rs 4000)- only. The patient lady confronted the Gurgaon hospital, she was readily offered a still cheaper Cipla!s Zoldria for Rs 2800/- The lady was infuriated. She literally cried with anger (and helplessness, I suppose) She kept saying, is it a cheap 'bazaar' kind of thing, as you go bargaining about?!
Anyway, she is now regularly using Zoldonat, manufacturered by Natco, for Rs 800/- (!!!) and is feeling just fine.
What the fu**.
Time n again, haplessness n helplessness of a common man is highlighted. He is taken for a ride. He is cheated. He is duped, swindled. He is cheated. He is exploited.
In plain and simple language, he is looted.
Okay, I understand that the doctors will prescribe with whatever the Medical Representative fraternity induces (!) them to. And not ALL doctors and hospitals are doing unscrupulous practice.
Still, there is an unholy nexus between such doctors/hospitals and Pharmaceutical companies (so called giants). And, if I may add a third partner (in crime!) Insurance companies!!?
Et tu, Brute?
Disgusting...
