Er Rational musings #675

Er Rational musings #675

Quest for a medal...

Part II

~ Winning is not everything, they say. Winning or losing is a part of the game, they say. Participation is important, they say.

(But, is it?!); Well, we shall leave it like that. (at this juncture!)

As an avid sports enthusiast, I have to make certain suggestions.

We need to tackle myriads of problems faced by us Indians, of not excelling in sports, other than Cricket. At the highest competitive level.

Firstly, let's segregate various games in 3 differentiating groups.

1. Individual game. And requiring nil, or at the most, very less in number, and cheap, sportsgear or accessories or special/specific facilities, and/or specific coaching at the beginning, per se.

Examples

Athletics events like various running races, Weight lifting, and Swimming.

2. Individual game. But requiring costly sportsgear or accessories or special/specific facilities, and/or specific coaching.

Examples

Track n field events like shot put, Javeline throw, Discuss throw, Pole vault etc; Swimming (diving), Wrestling, Boxing, Golf, Archery, Fencing, Cycling, Gymnastics, Shooting etc.

3. Team games like Badminton, Table Tennis, Volleyball, Basketball, Soccer, Hockey, Handball etc.

Secondly, we need to involve Corporate Sector into sports promotion, in a big way. Start mandatory CSR (Corporate Sports Responsibility) on the likes of existing CSR (Corporate Social Responsibility)

Thirdly, we shall have to involve elected public representatives like local Municipal Corporators, Members of Legislative Assembly, and Members of Parliament.

And lastly, we need to ensure proper backing, assistance, and support from various Sports Federations, Associations, Academies, Educational Institutions, and State & Central Government.
