Er Rational musings #422

Er Rational musings #422

Table Tennis (TT) has come a long way. An indoor game, on the likes of outdoor Lawn Tennis, was started during 1900s, popularly known as Ping Pong. And now TT is dominated by Chinese players since last 12-17 years.

Kamlesh Mehta is an all time great TT player as far as India is concerned. He played in "all India" finals for 11 times, winning the title 8 times, between 1981 to 1994. A record, still unbroken. Other notable contemporary national players were Manjit Dua, Manmeet Singh, Sunil Babras, Indu Puri etc.

Petroleum companies, Air India, Banks, Insurance companies, Railways, and other institutions have always supported good players and have employed them.

Mumbai has produced good amount of TT players. But West Bengal and PSCB (Petroleum Sports Control Board) players are stealing the show.

We are lacking in having a national TT champion since long.

The future seems bright with promising young talent of late.

Let's wait n watch...
