Er Rational musings #404
Oxford English Dictionary (OED) and Merriam-Webster Dictionary are rivals of a sort. While OED will provide meanings, phrases, definitions and pronounsations etc of 'UK'ian (!) English, Merriam-Webster will 'America'nised (!) English. So, for example, we have 'Colour' versus 'Color', respectively! But all words are alphabetically placed in both.
Dictionary has been a great help to us, and we would refer to it at any stage of our lives. Any good quality dictionary would have @2.5 to 3.5 Lac words, normally. Its modern and reliable 'avatar' was first made available around 50 years back.
It was a great informative (!) fun to keep one in your pocket and flip thru it during past time.
With the advent and near about explosion of wireless, internet based knowledge pool n domain of Google, old faithful static Dictionary is within everybody's reach, anytime, anywhere.
From Ocean to Ocean, as the saying goes...
