Er Rational musings #68

Er Rational musings #68

Mumbai - Pune (etc) based (!) NRI parents and their US - Canada - Singapore - UK (etc) based NRI children, student turned employees!

Parents have had worked hard to ensure proper upbringing n education of their wards. The higher education in a foreign country beckons most of the Engineering (predominantly) n other students, after graduation. Good! Thereafter comes, in most of the cases, education loan. The children are ready to fly by wings. And rightly so. A one or two years Masters degree or a five years comprehensive, Masters plus PHD. And thus the dilemma starts. Such India based NRI parents start feeling a void, a vacuum. And if there is ONLY one child, the loneliness is more so. What to do? Motive?  Purpose? Then, they try to get involved in some socio-cultural activities. Or just while away their time doing routine work, chatting on Whatsapp/Skype and Facebook at pre-defined times!

For the children landed in a foreign country, it's not an easy going, either. A complete different culture. Studies. Self service. New Indian buddies. Usually close friendship happens between the 'intruders' from same country or from some other country only, but rarely with the 'originals, natives'.

Very few MSs or PHDs return to India, after spending such 5-6 years.

Howsoever they attain great knowledge, they are @lways treated as a second class citizens, Brownies or Blackies. Hardships are permanent. They are @lso lonely. Only weekends offer some solace; they can visit others!!

Why don't they return? Easily n universally cited n accepted answer is 'Scope is less for such brilliance/Intelligence!'

Is it so? Really!? Don't they owe something to their native? Is it not @lways great to be a King in Mulund, Mumbai, for example, than be a mere Pawn in a foreign country? Be the Achiever, here. Be the Leader, here. Be the Mover n Shaker, here. Be the Next Gen Maker, here. Be the Nation Builder, HERE!

Return, make a niche for yourself, don't be callous. Don't be a coward. Don't be so chicken hearted. Don't evade. Don't run away.

It's Hindustan's Brain Gain. Welcome back.
