Er Rational musings #59

Er Rational musings #59

PART 1

                                                 Rat race...

Scenario/ Reality :-

Only Graduation is not enough. MBA is a must. (Before an MBA phobia, Steno/Typing was a MUST after graduation, many years back! Offcourse; @lmost everyone used to join the typing classes...no hard feelings)

Then, a good job at last, if one is fortunate enough.

Corporate ladder starts. A rat race, a dog eat dog competition. A novice begins his career at the bottom wrung n starts understanding corporate naunces, ways, means n customs, to surge forward at breathneck speed.

Take any department/function/role/profile/post, pressure starts mounting; stakes are high, deliverables pile on. Be it

Production, Quality Control, Logistics, Supply chain, Purchase/Procurement, Sales, Marketung, HR, Accounts, Audit, Projects, Maintenance, Administration, back office/front office/Secretarial, after Sales service, Branding/Advertising, Facilities, Security, Safety, Transport, Welfare, Training, Stores/Materials, IT, Networking - any n all departments are pressure cooker, now a days.

Prove oneself, meet time-lines/deadlines, multitasking, surpass targets, achieve goals, make office tours, attend seminars/conferences, participate in meetings, site visits, even arranging/be present at office parties/get togethers has become a market 'mantra'!

This results into new responsibilities, newer challenges, alongwith more perks, perquisites, allowances...PLI (Performance Linked Incentive) or PLR (Performance Linked Reward), increments, raise, position, post, authority AND Ambition!

Reason? A feeling of being left out, dreading the tag of 'under achiever', average performer, an also ran. Read between the lines - need for Comfort zone, bigger flat, bigger vehicle, bigger, more, larger, greater...of everything!

Be the leader in the race!

And the consequences? And any solution?

             (to be continued)
