The industrialust O. P. Munjal dies at 87. Hero Cycles!!
He was instrumental in tying up with Honda, a Japanese two wheeler motor cycle manufacturer. The partnership revolutionised Indian market. The ever dominant players at that time, who were minting money, sans any innovative product, like Bajaj, Rajdoot, API (Lamby) etc were given a harrowing time with the advent of 100 CC Hero Honda bike. That was a game changer. Till that time, would today's generation believe, that there was waiting list for delivery of Bajaj Chetak? But fierce competition bought the best out of better players, while mediocre faded away into oblivion.
Similar story is of Premier Automobiles (Premier Padmini) and Hindustan Motors (Ambassador), vis a vis Maruti Suzuki motors. Bur, details about that sometime later...
